Shop Drawings & Permit Drawings FAQ
What is the difference between shop drawings and permit drawings?
Shop drawings are for your fabricators: full dimensions, material callouts, section details, fastening and electrical layouts so the sign can be built without guesswork. Permit drawings are for the jurisdiction: scaled elevations, site plan, mounting and attachment details, sign area calculations and code data formatted for a sign permit application.
What is included in a sign permit drawing package?
A typical package includes a cover sheet with project and code data, a site plan showing sign locations, a scaled building elevation with the sign in place, a dimensioned sign elevation with sign area calculation, section and mounting details, and electrical specifications with UL listing notes where applicable.
How fast is your turnaround?
Most shop drawing sets are returned in 2 to 3 business days and permit packages in 3 to 4 business days once we have the survey photos, artwork and site information. Rush turnaround is available when a submittal deadline is close.
What file formats do you deliver?
Sets are delivered as scaled, print-ready PDFs at 11x17 or 24x36, plus editable source files in AutoCAD DWG and Adobe Illustrator AI or EPS on request. Revision markups are returned in the same formats.
What do you need from us to start?
Site photos or a sign survey, the approved artwork or logo files, building or landlord dimensions, the sign type and illumination method, and the jurisdiction so we can match the local sign code and submittal format.
Do you provide stamped or engineered drawings?
We produce the drawing package itself. When a jurisdiction requires a structural engineer's stamp, we prepare the set in the format your engineer of record needs so it can be sealed without a redraw.
Do you work with sign companies outside your area?
Yes. We work remotely with sign shops, fabricators and general contractors worldwide, and format each package to the submitting jurisdiction's requirements.
